What are the technical requirements for insulating gasket kits?
The purpose of the insulating gasket kit is to prevent the presence of static currents on the piping system that may cause corrosion of flanges and flange joints. Gasket spacer kits include a special spacer, spacer sleeves for all studs and nuts, and special washers.
Flange insulation kits are designed to electrically insulate flanges and act as an insulator between dissimilar metal flanges. They are also used to electrically isolate sections of piping in cathodic protection systems. Thereby preventing static charges from flowing along the pipes as they eliminate the possibility of creating a galvanic cell system.
The technical requirements for insulating gasket kits are:
1. The material should be of high insulating quality and, in addition to protecting the flange from corrosion, should also meet the pressure/temperature requirements of the system.
2. The diameter of the insulating gasket should be equal to the diameter of the pipe. This will prevent any repair material from accumulating in the annular space between the gasket hole and the tube hole, preventing bridges from forming.
3. Insulating gaskets shall be suitable for the intended flange rating, maximum pressure and temperature conditions of the system and working fluid.
