What are the components of the insulating gasket kit?
The purpose of the insulating gasket kit is to prevent (electrolytic) corrosion of flanges and flange joints that may be caused by static currents present on the piping system. The insulating spacer kit includes a special spacer, spacer sleeves for all studs and nuts, and special washers.
Insulation gasket kits are designed to electrically insulate flanges and act as an insulator between dissimilar metal flanges. Insulating spacer kits are also used to electrically isolate sections of piping (dissimilar metals) in cathodic protection systems. Thereby preventing static charges from flowing along the pipes as they eliminate the possibility of creating a galvanic cell system.
The components of a typical insulating spacer kit include:
1. A central flat or oval section washer
2. One insulating sleeve per bolt
3. Two insulating steel washers per bolt
4. Two plated steel washers per bolt
For best results, insulating spacer kits must follow certain design criteria. The resistive characteristics of the components are balanced for use and location in the insulation system. The components are made of insulating materials with high compressive strength and good stability. Insulation spacer kits are typically available up to 24 inches, but custom higher nominal sizes can be produced upon request.
